Attorney General Jim Hood is taking another legal step to see if Mississippians are due more money for BP oil spill claims. MPB’s Rhonda Miller reports Hood said he’s filing a motion in New Orleans federal court this week.

JACKSON -- Department of Marine Resources Director Bill Walker’s reconfirmation sailed through a Senate committee Thursday, despite a chairman’s threat Wednesday to hold it up.
Ports and Marine Resources Chairman Brice Wiggins, R-Pascagoula, had threatened Wednesday to hold up Gov. Phil Bryant’s reappointment of Walker over a battle over control of BP fine money expected to come to Mississippi.

Beach closure in Bay St. Louis
HANCOCK COUNTY -- The Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality has issued a beach closure for Oak Boulevard east in Bay St. Louis to Ballantine Street. The closure was issued because of possible high bacteria levels and dangerous physical conditions caused by beach replenishment in the area. MDEQ will lift the closure after the replenishment is complete and water samples show levels are safe for human contact.
