MDEQ Lifts Beach Closure in Gulfport
(Jackson, Miss.) – The Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality
(MDEQ), through its Beach Monitoring Program, Saturday lifted a
precautionary beach closure issued November 14 for a section of beach in
Gulfport.
The closure stretched from Teagarden Road on the west to the old VA
property on the east. This segment included Beach Sampling Station 10A
which is the Courthouse Road Beach near the Courthouse Road west parking
lot.
This precautionary closure was issued due to a sewage discharge from the
City of Gulfport collection system. Samples taken by MDEQ indicate no
contamination.
