JACKSON, Mississippi — Mississippi Phosphates said Friday that it will lay
off about 200 employees and contractors as the bankrupt fertilizer company
ends production and seeks a buyer.

PASCAGOULA -- Mississippi Phosphates, a major fertilizer producer in east
Jackson County that has been plagued with environmental issues in recent
years, announced Friday it will be stopping production of its diammonium
phosphate (DAP) product early next week.

Services manager, said of the award announced this week by Gary Rikard,
executive director of the Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality,

What one area business owner called a lousy first impression to the
city of Jackson was resolved Friday, at least temporarily.
On Friday, a Jackson Public Schools crew cleared 16th Section
property, located on the I-20 frontage road between Gallatin Street
and McDowell Road, which was riddled with garbage. The action came
after WLBT-TV reported the mess.
