Dead zone along Louisiana-Texas coast seen as size of Connecticut
Times-Picayune

The 2016 summertime dead zone on the continental shelf along the coasts of
Louisiana and east Texas will be 6,824 square miles, a low-oxygen area the
size of Connecticut, according to a forecast Thursday (June 9) from
scientists withLouisiana State University, the Louisiana Universities
Marine Consortium and the University of Michigan. That's just a bit larger
than the 2015 area of hypoxia, a term referring to water with 2 parts per
million or less of oxygen, along the coast -- but 3½ times larger than the
reduction goal set by a federal-state consortium of environmental agencies.

northside sun
THU, 06/09/2016 - 12:45PM BY WYATT EMMERICH

The bidding laws in Mississippi are a mess: Contractors are allowed to
donate to political campaigns to get government contracts. Service
contracts don't have to be bid out. Governments are free to choose the high
bidder. Cities and counties have no oversight for their public procurement.
The list goes on.
