Number of Jobs Rises to Record Highs

Mississippi has more jobs than ever before. According to the Mississippi Department of Employment Security, in December, the number of non-farm jobs in Mississippi rose to 1,173,000, which are the most jobs ever recorded in Mississippi. December was the third month in a row in which the number of jobs broke the previous record.

BP to spend $1.3 billion on Atlantis Gulf oilfield

The expansion, plus increases in expected production from Thunder Horse, Na Kika, could increase Gulf production to 400,000 barrels/day in next decade. The company also announced two new oil discoveries at its Manuel and Nearly Headless Nick prospect oilfields in the Gulf, which are near BP’s Na Kika platform. The company anticipates its Gulf production growing from less than 200,000 barrels of oil equivalent a day in 2013 to around 400,000 barrels a day by the middle of the next decade.

EPA criminal penalties against polluters hit 30-year-low

WASHINGTON — The Environmental Protection Agency hit a 30-year low in 2018 in the number of pollution cases it referred for criminal prosecution, Justice Department data show.
EPA said in a statement that it is directing "its resources to the most significant and impactful cases."
