Gov. Phil Bryant says the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers must find a Mississippi River flood-relief alternative to the Bonnet Carré Spillway, which is killing aquatic life and compromising the ecosystems of South Mississippi and Louisiana waterways.

Meridian's water and sewer rates may go up the next five years

The city of Meridian's water and sewer rates may go up nine percent a year over the next five years to pay for mandatory improvements to the wastewater system, according to Public Works Director Hugh Smith. The proposed rate increase is being driven by the city's requirement to comply with an agreement with the Environmental Protection Agency, known as a consent decree, he said.

Gov. Bryant Announces Restoration Projects

(BILOXI, Miss.) – Gov. Phil Bryant announced a list of 15 restoration projects for 2019 during the annual Mississippi Restoration Summit in Biloxi on Tuesday. When implemented, these projects will add more than $53 million to the total of more than $560 million already being spent on restoration projects in the wake of the 2010 Deepwater Horizon oil spill. The summit is hosted by the Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality (MDEQ).
