With white sandbars, tree-lined banks and a gentle current, the Pearl River may seem like an inviting place to spend a hot summer day. However, according to the Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality, about 27 miles of river in Jackson metro have unsafe levels of E. coli bacteria and people are warned against making contact with the water.
