Tar balls threaten Hancock Co. beach project

DEQ officials say the tar balls were unearthed by the contractor hired to
truck sand from Bay St. Louis to the Lakeshore community. They say the oil
turned up after a path was cleared on the beach so the trucks could make
their deliveries.

University of South Alabama researchers win $12.3 million in grants for BP

MDEQ awards solid waste grant

The Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality (MDEQ) has awarded
Choctaw County a solid waste assistance grant of $10,413 that will be used
by the county for employment assistance for a local solid waste enforcement
officer.

Jackson Co. mother's home flooded by raw sewage

A Jackson County mother of two is wondering how she'll ever make her home
livable again after it was flooded with several inches of raw sewage. Lisa
Holland said after she reported the problem, utility workers fixed the
pipe, but by then the damage had been done. She said figuring out who will
pay for this may turn into an even bigger mess.

Work to resume at Mississippi Phosphates after deaths

PASCAGOULA, Mississippi -- Operations are resuming today at Mississippi
Phosphates Corp.'s diammonium phosphate plant in Pascagoula, after ceasing
for several days following incidents that left two employees dead and two
injured.
