MDEQ, PICAYUNE, AND PEARL RIVER COUNTY OFFER HHW COLLECTION SITE FOR
ISAACCLEAN-UP
JACKSON, Miss. – The Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality is
working with the City of Picayune and Pearl River County to help residents
deal with wastes and debris damage caused by Hurricane Isaac. In
conjunction with the city and the county, MDEQ will offer a collection site
for Household Hazardous Wastes (HHW) from the storm beginning Saturday.
Household Hazardous Wastes include household chemicals and similar products
such as gasoline, antifreeze, paints, stains, thinners, gas, kerosene,
propane, oils, cleaning supplies such as bleach, disinfectants, furniture
polish, pool chemicals, thermostats, light ballasts, ant/roach killers,
wasp/hornet killers, and lawn fertilizers and other similar hazardous
materials from individual residences.
The HHW collection site is located at:
Incinerator Road Site in Picayune off East Canal Street just east of I-59
Open: 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Saturday
It is anticipated the site will be open for approximately three weeks. MDEQ
will work with local officials to determine if additional collection
services for HHW will be needed in high impact areas of the county or
cities.
If you are not near one of these collection sites or events contact your
city or county officials for more storm debris collection information.
