Governor Bryant Appoints Ernie Zimmerman to Commission on Marine Resources

BILOXI—Gov. Phil Bryant today announced the appointment of Ernie Zimmerman
of Waveland to the Commission on Marine Resources.

The Commission on Marine Resources steers the vision of the Department of
Marine Resources. Zimmerman has been a member of the Coastal Conservation
Association since 2002 and currently serves as president of the Bay St.
Louis chapter, a position he also held from 2002-2007. He also is a member
of the Mississippi Wildlife Federation.

"Ernie's love and work in protecting our marine resources make him a
perfect appointment to the Commission on Marine Resources," Gov. Bryant
said. "DMR's success is vital to the Gulf Coast and to the management of
Mississippi's coastal resources, and I know Ernie will be an asset to the
Commission."

Zimmerman attended St. Stanislaus High School and later attended Pearl
River Community College.

His professional career includes serving as a superintendent for Trinity
Yachts in Gulfport and as Production Technician for Calgon Carbon in Bay
St. Louis.

Jamie Miller, executive director of the Mississippi Department of Marine
Resources, said Zimmerman has a notable track record of marine resource
conservation in southern Mississippi. His honest and practical approach to
environmental stewardship will be an asset to the Commission.

"For years, Ernie Zimmerman has worked to protect the coastal resources on
the Gulf Coast, particularly the Heron Bay estuary," Miller said. "His
efforts to preserve our marine environment will make him a valuable member
of the CMR."

"I am honored and humbled by this appointment from Gov. Bryant and look
forward to protecting the sustainability of our marine and coastal
resources for all Mississippians," Zimmerman said. "I would like to thank
the governor and the people of our state for this opportunity to serve
them. This appointment makes me understand that my work protecting our
marine environment has not gone unnoticed."

Jimmy Taylor, chairman of the CMR, said he and the other commissioners look
forward to working with Zimmerman.

"We have heard a lot of good things about Ernie Zimmerman, and we are glad
to have him as part of the CMR," he said.

Zimmerman is a lifelong resident of Waveland and has been married to Kim
Scafidi for 28 years. They have two daughters, Rachael and Gabrielle.

Zimmerman replaces Vernon Asper, who resigned from the Commission in July.
Zimmerman's appointment will be brought before the Mississippi Senate for
confirmation during the 2014 legislative session.
