Land buy gives states its largest stretch of protected land

PASCAGOULA -- A new land acquisition is changing the status of public lands
in Mississippi.
The Nature Conservancy, working with the Mississippi Forestry Commission,
has added 2,100 acres to the De Soto National Forest just west of Lucedale
-- where the Leaf River meets the Pascagoula -- creating the largest
continuous tract of protected land in the state.
