With the impending arrival of billions of dollars for restoration of
environmental damage along the coast of the Gulf of Mexico caused by the BP
Deepwater Horizon Oil spill, the 13th annual Capitol Hill Ocean Week, a
gathering of federal, state and local ocean and coastal managers,
scientists and related industry executives in Washington, D.C., provided an
important perspective on how that effort should be coordinated with other
environmental issues involving the Gulf, its shoreline and the oceans in
general.

JAMIE M. MILLER: Newsom's column was right about one thing: DMR must do a
better job communicating
Sun Herald
Iread with great interest Michael Newsom's column in the Sun Herald on June
2 ("New regime, new network at DMR"). While I disagree with the implied
motives for my actions in the column, I do agree with one thing: The
Mississippi Department of Marine Resources under my direction must do a
better job in communicating with the public. We must strive to inform
taxpayers how we intend to restore the public's trust while continuing to
perform our state and federally required agency functions.
